A sight I haven’t seen for a while…

At a busy intersection, on the concrete divider island, an older black man, standing silently. He’s holding a cardboard sign, hand-lettered, saying “HOMELESS. PLEASE HELP”. The driver of the car in front of me throws a dollar bill towards the man as the light turns green. The bill flutters into the traffic lane and the old man watches it, wisely waiting until the cars are gone before I see him in the rear view mirror, stooping to retrieve the donation.

  • when the weather warms, they come out of their Homes to hit the streets
  • All of the above have been missing, Kahlil. When I lived in upstate New York 7 years ago, there were men and women like him at every major intersection, with "Homeless" signs or "Will Work For Food" signs. Haven't seen anyone like that since I've been living in suburban Baltimore. I guess it takes a while for the effects of compassionate conservatism to work its way down to the streets.
  • What part has been missing, the guy in need or the guy spending a buck on compassion? Or all the drivers who didn't yell "Get a job, liberal" and try to run him over?

They're back... I saw a can collector on rural route last weekend. Does this mean the economy is getting... better?
